Bee removal, done properly

Before anyone arrives

Leave the swarm alone — a resting swarm is usually gone within a day or two and is at its most docile — and keep the area clear rather than treating anything. A cluster on a branch is bees house-hunting, not an attack. If bees are entering a wall cavity, note the entrance and the hours of activity.

Do it yourself, or call?

Honey bees should be relocated, not exterminated, wherever that is possible: many beekeepers and specialist removers collect swarms, sometimes free. Established colonies inside structures are professional work — the comb and honey must come out with the bees, or the melt and the robbing insects that follow become the next problem. Spraying a wall colony is the worst available option.

What a proper job looks like

A proper structural bee job opens the cavity, removes bees and comb together, and repairs and seals so the pheromone-marked void is not recolonised. Ask whether the bees are relocated and whether comb removal and repair are included; the answer separates bee specialists from general spray work.

Choosing the company
