Pest control in numbers

The trade, measured through Google’s own review record for every business in the corpus. Everything below is computed from the same data the listings show, so these figures cannot disagree with a listing — and they move whenever the corpus is refreshed.

The headline finding

33.8% of businesses have no critical review at all

Of the 17,492 businesses whose full histogram we hold, 5,916 have not a single one- or two-star review. The corpus median rating is 4.9 over a median of 63 reviews per business — which is exactly why an average alone tells you so little, and why every listing here shows the distribution instead.

Bed bugs — the pest with a whole cultural panic to its name — sit near the bottom. Rodents, ants and wasps are what the continent actually calls about. A specialism on this site is earned by reviewer mentions, never by a services list.

What the trade says about itself

How they work, in their own words

Businesses set attributes on their own Google profile. These shares are over the 8,052 listings that state at least one — not over the whole corpus, because 54% of listings state none, and a business that has said nothing has not said no.

Two of these decide who a person can actually hire this week: whether the company comes to you, and whether it will quote without a visit first. They are the trade’s own words about itself, not checks anyone has made.
