The problem
A yard problem rather than a building one, and the clearest case of a recurring seasonal service rather than a single visit.
How you know
Biting activity at dawn and dusk, standing water in gutters, plant saucers and low ground.
What the work involves
Barrier treatments to foliage on a repeating cycle through the season, plus removal of standing water. Some areas also have a public mosquito-control district that treats at no cost.

The playbook

Mosquito control, done properly

Before anyone arrives

Tip out every container of standing water — saucers, toys, gutters, tarpaulin folds — because that is where the next thousand were going to come from, and it costs nothing. Screens and fans for the evening; mosquitoes are weak fliers and a moving airstream defeats them.

Do it yourself, or call?

Source reduction is the most effective mosquito control there is, and it is entirely DIY. Professional barrier treatments of vegetation earn their keep on properties backing onto woods or water, and for events; they knock the population down for a period rather than ending it. Anyone promising elimination of a flying insect that breeds off your property is overpromising.

What a proper job looks like

A proper mosquito service inspects for breeding sites first and says so, treats resting vegetation with a targeted application, and is upfront that the effect is a reduction with a re-treatment interval. Larvicide in water that cannot be drained is the mark of someone treating the source rather than the symptom.

Choosing the company

Mosquito work is seasonal and recurring, so the reply rate on a listing matters: you are choosing a company to deal with repeatedly. Reviewer mentions here show who does dedicated mosquito work rather than adding it to an invoice.
