The problem
Nearly always a breeding source rather than an entry problem — a drain, a bin, a dead animal in a cavity, or an over-watered plant.
How you know
Sudden numbers in one room, or small flies clustered at a drain or window.
What the work involves
Find and remove the source. Treatment without that is temporary by definition.

Questions about flies

The playbook

Fly control, done properly

Before anyone arrives

Identify which fly, because it names the source: fruit flies mean fermenting produce or a drain, drain flies mean the biofilm inside a rarely used trap, cluster flies in autumn mean they are overwintering in the walls, and blow flies indoors in numbers can mean something died in a void. Pour boiling water down suspect drains and clear the fruit bowl tonight.

Do it yourself, or call?

Fruit and drain flies are almost always solvable at the source with cleaning and drain treatment; traps confirm progress. Professionals come in for recurring blow fly emergencies (finding the dead animal), for cluster fly proofing at scale, and for commercial kitchens where the standard is regulatory rather than domestic.

What a proper job looks like

Good fly work is sanitation-led: find the breeding site, remove it, treat the residual population, then proof entry points. In autumn cluster-fly country, the real work is sealing the sunny wall they enter through, done before the season, not fogging the attic after.

Choosing the company

Fly mentions in reviews are rare enough that they mark genuine experience. Match the fly you have to a listing whose reviewers describe the same problem, and read the distribution over the average as everywhere on this site.

Ordered by how many reviews name flies, then by adjusted rating. A high count means many customers wrote about it — it is a measure of volume and subject, not of quality.
