Before you call

What to know about ants

The problem: Most ant callouts are a trail to a food source. Carpenter ants are the exception: they excavate damp structural timber and are a building problem, not a kitchen one.
How you know: A persistent line of ants along the same route, fine sawdust below timber, or winged ants indoors in spring.
What the work involves: Baiting is normally preferred to spraying, because the colony has to be treated rather than the visible trail.
